Along with the typical lounging around the backyard watching kids (theirs, not mine) play routine, we did some sight-seeing. I think my favorite outing was visiting the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
We'd been there several years ago after it first opened, but this trip I was able to really take my time and soak everything in. With no littles or bigs to look after, I wandered around and got lost in videos and sounds as I read everything I could about the history of the music and the massive cultural, political and religious shifts surrounding the music of our time.
I could go on and on about all the interesting little tid-bits I learned that I didn't know before. More than anything I was struck by the collection of hearts that were followed, the dreams realized, the invaluable art created, the bravery and the love poured out to eventually build this house of rock. You just have to go and see it. The time lines and maps that put together all the pieces of the puzzle, the fascinating displays of influential musicians that inspired what would one day be Rock and Roll, and the incredible art and design that brought it all together are enough to set your heart on fire!
At least, it was for me.
As I walked along the lower level of the museum, I absorbed the pictures and the quotes on the wall from various inductees into the Hall of Fame, and this one struck me:
"If you are not doing what you love,
you are wasting your time."
- Billy Joel
That was it. That's what I needed. That makes it all worth it. That sums up my crazy life changing decision to quit my full time job and follow my heart to start my own business. It's enough to inspire me to continue to support and encourage my entrepreneurial husband who's got a different idea every day and needs me to believe in him.
I'm right where I need to be, doing exactly what it is I should be doing. What I love, what I'm passionate about, what INSPIRES me.
What inspires you? What do you love?
I hope you're not wasting your time. If you are, I hope you will be inspired today to forge a way out, on, up and above the time wasting, fire squelching, love dumbing thing that is consuming you. Make a plan...or don't. Sometimes the lack of a plan is exactly the answer you need. But whatever you're dreaming about, know that it doesn't have to be the distant future before you see it realized. It can be now.
Love and Honey,
Missy
